Queensland Marine Training Services conducts Coxswains, Master 5, Master 4 and MED III courses by facilitated learning utilising the approved training course from Wide Bay TAFE. This is a blended model between full classroom and open learning models and allows the students full access to resources and practical sessions whilst still progressing at their own pace.

Elements of Shipboard Safety and the Marine Radio Operators Certificate are pre-requisites or co-requisites for these courses.

Qualifications are issued by Wide Bay TAFE upon successful completion. Candidates need to seek seatime approval from Maritime Safety Queensland.

Duration
Candidates have two semesters to complete the syllabus.

Practical Coxswain Training

For students employed within the maritime industry and who wish to have their seatime assessed using Maritime Safety Queensland’s Industry Task Book we can provide  a qualified assessor to firstly orientate both the student and their employer on how to fill in and sign off the task book, followed up with a number of industry visitations to check on taskbook progress. As required an assessor can also be provided into the workplace to assist in the facilitation of taskbook completion.

Course Cost: Provision of taskbook, orientation and 3 subsequent industry visits: $385.00 incl. GST. Assessors available from $88 per hour (maximum of 3 students per assessor).

For students who are not employed within the maritime industry but who wish to obtain practical sea-time within a structured training environment designed to facilitate completion of the MSQ issued Coxswain Industry Task Book we have developed a 25 day (8 hours per day) intensive on-water package that complements the underpinning knowledge components of the Coxswains course. This underway programme includes both day and night time activities and revolves around training on a number of different vessels.
Course Cost: 25 day practical training programme plus Coxswain underpinning knowledge, ESS and Marine Radio $13,750 incl. GST.
