Matterson Marine Pty Ltd, trading as Queensland Marine Training Services is a family owned company based in Brisbane, Queensland and was formed in 1999 by Richard and Allison Matterson.

Richard holds a Marine Master Class IV and Australian 2nd Mates Certificate of Competency amongst his qualifications and has been involved in ships and boats since a very young age growing up on the banks of the Derwent River in Hobart, Tasmania. He has served with the Royal Australian Navy (1988-1996), and worked for Blue Star Line and Sydney Ferries prior to opening Matterson Marine Pty Ltd using the 34′ yacht ‘Illusion’ for sail training on Sydney Harbour.

A Yachting Australia qualified Offshore Yachtmaster, Richard has extensive small boat sailing experience, including the bluewater classic Sydney-Hobart and many other offshore yacht races. Richard is heavily involved in business management and training and in November 2002 was elected to the board of The Australian Wine Society Co-operative Limited.

Allison was raised in the small town of Bigga, in country New South Wales, and is a registered nurse who manages to work, look after two small children, act as Company Secretary and Director for Matterson Marine Pty Ltd, whilst still maintaining her sense of humour. She and Richard were married in 1992 and have two children, William and Rachel.

In 2001 Richard and Allison moved from Sydney to Brisbane and began to expand their business interests including Queensland Marine Training Services and Brisbane Barge Services.
